SlipSkin™

SlipSkin™ 90/10 is a patented hydrophilic biocompatible polymer that is suitable for use as a surface coating for medical devices and was developed in collaboration with the company Merit Medical Coatings (former name: MCTec B.V.) in Venlo, the Netherlands. The SlipSkin™ biocompatible polymer is designed to enhance biocompatibility and lubricity of guidewires (and catheters) used in medical procedures, such as percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA).

Coating Materials

The biocompatible SlipSkin™ coating materials are available in different monomer ratios of NVP (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) : BMA (butylmethacrylate) to alter the hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity. See below the product list of coating materials.

The surface coatings can  be made:

  • Anti-thrombogenic; several anticoagulants (i.e. heparin) can be used
  • Anti-microbial; several antimicrobial agents can be used
  • Combining anti-thrombogenic and anti-microbial properties
  • Customized developments are possible as well
